My old hard drive stopped working... so I took apart my back-up tower which had 4 hard drives... and they each have about 232Gb i partitioned the hd on my macintosh... then i formated it while trying to install a new verison of windows... so it could be a viable choice for it... but it still doesnt do it... it freezes up for some reason after it says installing updates.. what should i do or is there anything i can do??
How do i Install windows vista on a hard drive that was part of a back up tower?
Hi Icicle_man,
Before you reinstall or format, you need to backup your drivers, especially backup your SATA driver(if you are using a SATA harddisk), when you install or do hard disk partition, format, you'll need it.
Most of the problem like this is having no SATA driver, if you don't believe, just try as the following instructs:
1.Get the hard disk driver at hand.
2.Use Windows XP Setup CD to install OS, at the beginning of the setup, when you see ''Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver ...'' in the status bar, press F6 to provide the correct location for the SATA harddisk dirver or backup files in your harddisk, and then you can do the hard disk partition or format the disk.
Good luck!

1- you should format the hard drive.
2- note that some hardware doesn't work with Vista.
